Lessons:

Our sea kayaking courses are taught by patient, certified instructors who make your learning process enjoyable and rewarding. We structure the lessons to cover all aspects of the sport in a natural progression, making them suitable for all ages and kayaking abilities.



Introductory Course

This course is ideal for first timers or beginner kayakers who would like to learn the correct and safest ways to paddle.

Course Content: Equipment function and maintenance, safety gear and how to use it, 6 types of basic paddle strokes, dry entering/exiting techniques, Coast Guard requirements, and packing and transport techniques.

Location: Tree Island Kayaking at 3025 Comox Road – on the water behind Portuguese Joe’s Fish Market

Adult Intro to Kayaking
16 years +

Cost: $35.00 + GST

2 hour private lessons are available for $50.00 (including GST)and semi-private lessons are also available for $40.00 (including GST) per person. Please book with us directly, 24 hours in advance, by phone.

 

Intermediate Course

This course is perfect for paddlers who want to work on stroke development. Your instructor will address your skill and technique concerns during a guided tour to the Royston wrecks.

Course Content: Advanced paddling strokes and development (braces, sculling, draws, turns and leans), crossing techniques and strategies.

Intermediate Kayaking
13 years +

Cost: $35.00 + GST

Advanced Rescue Course

This course is designed for paddlers with a hunger for challenge! We will focus on prevention of a predicament on the water, and the techniques to recover should one occur. If you are interested in perfecting your skills, learning crucial safety techniques, and taking on the challenges of sea kayak travel without a guide, then this course is for you!

This is a two part course. The first session is in the pool and the second is in the ocean.

Course Content: Wet exits, re-entries (deep and shallow), self and assisted rescue protocols, water conditions and safety, Eskimo rolls and various assisted rescues.

***This course is based on flex-learning, which means not all skills listed are covered in all classes. Depending on group progression and focus, the instructor and students will decide as a group how much material will be covered in each session.

This course is only offered through private or semi-private lessons. Please book with us directly 24 hours in advance, by phone.

Cost: $50.00 (including GST) per person
Does not include pool rental. Cost of pool rental depends on quantity of participants.
